Easy Instagram UGC with SnapWidget

8 Feb

With about 90 million active monthly users, according its press site, Instagram garners 40 million photo uploads per day. Unfortunately, it’s still pretty difficult for journalists to find local users to follow unless they’re among your contacts or Facebook friends.

SnapWidget, however, provides a great opportunity to host an automated gallery on your site that will not only populate with local photos*, but may also introduce you to new users.

*By designating a particular hashtag (you can choose one hashtag OR one @handle) on SnapWidget’s site and putting the widget in your CMS, you can create a set-it-and-forget-it UGC gallery. The photos will be pulled exclusively from Instagram. Even better, the participating users will probably have found the UGC callout on your site or one of your other social media accounts, increasing the likelihood that they’re local.

Additionally, if you’re browsing Instagram and find photos that don’t contain your designated hashtag but would go well in the gallery, you can comment with said hashtag and they will appear on your site.

Here are two Patch examples of the widget in action.
